Research
1、 Our research interests in characterizing and studying fungal viruses, particularly from those infecting plant pathogenic fungi. To identify a potential biological agent of plant pathogenic fungi by extensively screening or generating the virulence attenuated fungal strains by means of developing viral transfect technology. In addition, a growing number of newly identified fungal viruses greatly contribute to better understanding of virus taxonomy and evolution.
2、 Virus diseases largely reduce crop yield and have always been a major concern in agricultural production because chemical treatments or conventional agronomical methods are not effective to control them. Hence, our secondary research interests in understanding of how viruses been transmitted to and induced disease in plant and what are crucial for developing new and effective techniques to prevent viral disease in the plants. Our studies cover a wide range of research topics regarding virus diseases in crops and fruit trees that are economically important in China. These viruses have been long known to exist but still pose a serious threat to crop production. In addition, we also devise new molecular diagnostic methods for detection of viruses that infect fruit trees. For molecular studies on viral gene functions, we identify and characterize the viral proteins that have roles in suppression of RNA silencing, viral pathogenicity and virus movement. Recently, a new project work has been started to investigate what effects of virus infection on plant metabolism in the context of the alteration of synthesis, translocation and function of various cellular components.
